A fun part of your visit to Prague Castle is Golden Lane — a narrow street with shops and homes from the 16th Century (1500s). Visitors can check out what workplaces for goldsmiths, tavern keepers and others were like in the early Renaissance.
The name of the street comes from the many goldsmiths who used to work here. It’s wonderful to walk around and imagine yourself living on Golden Lane hundreds of years ago!
The goldsmith’s shop
A tavern, food on the left and a barrel of beer or wine in the center
A family’s home — note the candle used for light
A bedroom — the bed was probably about 5 feet long and 2-3 feet wide!
A guard’s house — you can tell that a guard lived here by the red uniform.
