Just like Mr. Tom and I ask you to do first drafts of your work, Filippo Brunelleschi made rough drafts of his dome that changed the world.
The Cathedral’s Museum has models that Brunelleschi built to practice and try out his new ideas as well as some of the tools and machines that were used to construct the actual dome. Cool stuff!
Above, Brunelleschi’s “rough draft” of his dome, and my smiling face (I blame exhaustion).
Above, pulleys that lifted some of the 70 million pounds of materials in building the dome.
Above, scaffolding that the workers used in building the dome.
