This one’s for Breslin

Chinampas are the coolest.

The Aztec people had a major problem — there was not enough arable land (land for planting crops) to feed everyone, so they created more land. Using wood, mud and vegetation, they built islands in the shallows of lakes in the Mexico Valley. These man-made islands weren’t only used for agriculture, though, as people also built homes on the chinampas.

All the land that you see behind me in the video is that of chinampas, and seeing the chinampas is a lot like seeing any other island.

 

Also, to get the to the chinampas, I took a taxi ride in a little cart on the back of a bicycle!
